TROG’s latest Annual Research Report showcases a year of diverse, high-impact research, expanded international partnerships and deeper consumer engagement— all strengthening our work to improve cancer outcomes.

The 2025 report showcases the many achievements of the year, which was marked by achieving several clinical trial milestones.

These included the launch of our first trial run in collaboration with US trials group NRG Oncology, the TROG 19.06 DECREASE prostate cancer trial reaching its recruitment target, and the completion of the long-running TROG 07.01 DCIS breast cancer trial.

Some of the many highlights outlined in the 2025 Annual Research Report include:

  • The TROG network included 1719 members and Facility Alliance Membership increased by two to 28 members.
  • 189 participants were recruited to participate in clinical trials in 2025, bringing the total number of participants since TROG’s inception to 15,749.
  • 21 trials were open in the year, including 8 recruiting participants and 13 in follow-up.
  • 18 trials were in development
  • $3.5+ million was awarded in grants
  • TROG’s first trial run in collaboration with NRG Oncology Group was activated: the NRG-HN014/TROG 24.02 trial is targeting patient with cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma.
  • New collaborations were forged with the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Care (EORTC) and Head & Neck Cancer International Group (HNCIG).
  • 310 delegates attended TROG’s 2025 Annual Scientific Meeting in Brisbane
  • 12 manuscripts from TROG trials were published in pee-reviewed journals
  • The Emerging Investigators Special Interest Group was launched to support the next generation of researchers.

TROG President A/Prof Puma Sundaresan (pictured below with A/Prof Hien Le and Susan Goode) said TROG’s work in 2025 focused on strengthening core activities, delivering on strategic priorities and expanding global collaborations.

Financial stability enabled TROG to invest in data management infrastructure and organisational capability and the year also saw TROG invest in its membership and future workforce, she said.

“The launch of the Emerging Investigator Special Interest Group and initiatives such as the Concept Development Workshop are important steps in building research capacity and supporting the next generation of clinician-researchers. These initiatives reinforce TROG’s commitment to fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and sustainable research community.”

TROG CEO Susan Goode said the drive to involve consumers in all areas of TROG’s work was a key focus in 2025.

“Consumer engagement as well as equity, diversity and inclusion, remained important organisational priorities,” she said. “We continued to focus on improving equitable access, inclusiveness and the relevance of TROG’s research programs, particularly for rural, regional and underserved communities.”

She thanked TROG Members and all who contributed to the organisation’s success in 2025, especially the many patients and their families who participated in TROG-supported research.

“Their contribution remains central to everything we do and continues to drive our commitment to improving outcomes and quality of life for people affected by cancer.”
