TROG members highlighted cutting-edge radiation therapy research being led from Australia during wide-ranging presentations at the 17th International Stereotactic Radiosurgery Society (ISRS) Congress.
The biennial congress, held in Sydney from 31 May – 3 June, brought together world-leading experts in stereotactic radiosurgery and radiation oncology to share the latest research, technological advancements and clinical insights that are shaping the future of stereotactic radiosurgery and stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) globally.
The congress, which was chaired by TROG Member and Radiation Oncologist Dr Cecelia Gzell, discussed not only the latest research, but broader issues such as how doctors can navigate social media and how physician wellbeing can be better supported in modern clinical practice.
TROG member presentations included:
- Dr Lucinda Morris presented on using media and advocacy to turn patient partnerships into change
- Dr Yoo-Young (Dominique) Lee presented on SBRT in pancreatic cancer, as well as on her personal experience of physician care and wellness (pictured right)
- A/Prof Sweet Ping Ng presented on the rising role of SBRT in head and neck cancer
- Prof David Pryor presented on the promise for SBRT for treating hepatocellular cancer, including highlighting the TROG 21.07 SOCRATES HCC trial (pictured bottom right)
- Prof Wee Loon Ong presented on the march towards two fraction prostate SABR
- Prof Jarad Martin presented on prostate SBRT in a session on extracranial genitourinary cancer moderated by Prof David Pryor.


International keynote speaker Prof Arjun Sarghal discussed the proposed Canadian Cancer Trials Group (CCTG) collaboration with TROG to open the SC29 trial in Australia. The trial is comparing SBRT and conventional external beam radiotherapy for individuals with painful non-spine bone metastases.

The Congress also provided an opportunity for TROG’s A/Prof Hien Le, A/Prof Sweet Ping Ng and CEO Susan Goode to meet with Prof Joost Verhoeff, who chairs the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Radiation Oncology Science Council, to discuss collaborative activities under the recently executed TROG-EORTC Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU).
Congratulations to all TROG members who contributed to the Congress. The next ISRS Congress will take place in Toronto, Canada from 4-7 June 2028.
