The latest annual report from TROG Cancer Research showcases a year of impactful research, global collaboration and initiatives to support equity in radiation therapy clinical trials.

  • The TROG network grew to 1,743 members and 26 Facility Alliance members.
  • 211 participants were recruited to participate in clinical trials in 2024, bringing the total number since TROG’s inception to 15,560.
  • Our 2024-2026 Strategic Plan was launched to guide future directions and success.
  • TROG was accepted as a main member of the US-based NRG Oncology Group.
  • International recognition of the TROG 15.03/ANZUP 16001 – FASTRACK II trial in The Lancet Oncology and at ASTRO2024 (American Society for Radiation Oncology)
  • $2.9 million awarded in grants.
  • TROG’s first teletrial site was activated in Darwin for the 21.07 SOCRATES HCC trial.
  • 14 manuscripts from TROG trials were published, including findings from the AGITG AG0407GR/TROG 08.08 TOPGEAR trial in The New England Journal of Medicine.

TROG President A/Prof Puma Sundaresan highlighted the organisation’s robust financial position.

“The activities and achievements of 2024, driven by innovation, collaboration, and member engagement, while maintaining financial stability, have solidified TROG’s strong trajectory,” she commented.

She thanked the many TROG members who volunteer “their intellect, time and effort” to supporting and driving TROG’s work.

CEO Susan Goode said TROG’s impact was driven by a multidisciplinary membership of 1,700 professionals across Australia, New Zealand and internationally, including 10% in rural and regional areas, reflecting the organisation’s commitment to equity.

She highlighted the major milestone of TROG being accepted as a main member of the US-based NRG Oncology Group – making the organisation the first Australian cooperative trials group to achieve this status.

“This landmark collaboration opens the door for Australian sites to access NCI-supported trials and significantly strengthens our international research capabilities,” she said.
