TROG Cancer Research staff and many TROG Members celebrated World Radiotherapy Awareness Day (WRAD) throughout September, helping to spread the word about the vital impact of radiotherapy.

The inaugural event held on 7 September, themed ‘One Voice for Radiotherapy’, was a great success in highlighting the essential role of radiotherapy in treating cancer, relieving symptoms and improving quality of life for patients. It also raised awareness of the need to improve access to radiotherapy globally.

TROG staff shared their support for the WRAD via social media posts, as well as holding a lunch and ‘TROG trivia’ quiz, testing everyone’s knowledge of radiation therapy and TROG’s 35+ year history. Test your own knowledge via the TROG trivia quiz!

TROG Research Development Lead, Rebecca Montgomery, pledged her support for WRAD, commenting: “Having family in southern Africa, I’m concerned with the challenges of limited access to cancer treatment. Raising awareness helps close the global gap, ensuring patients everywhere receive the same quality of care.”

Many of our Facility Alliance Member sites also marked the day with a variety of events.

The Radiation Therapy team from Waikato Regional Cancer Centre in New Zealand, set up an information stall to help educate others about radiotherapy, and celebrated with an array of orange foods, from carrots to cupcakes (Pictured below).
